The Swapping market is a phenomenon started in Aarhus back in 2010. Through collaboration between The Sustainability Agency, Worldperfect and the Danish Fashion Institute, The Swapping Market conceptualized into a strong and world wide event. The concept is simple: Give what you have and take what you need. The Swapping Market avoid face-to-face swapping by setting up the venue so everyone hands over their items to volunteers who distribute them around the market area. The Swapping Market has now been held in New York, Los Angeles, Milan and Paris.

THE COAL BRIDGE

The Coal Bridge is an example of a project that uses abandoned urban architecture and turns it into an attractive spot in the city. As the name indicates The Coal Bridge project uses an old coal bridge - for many years a shady part of the town, no longer involved in the city life.

The project's vision is therefore to bring the bridge and its neighbourhood to life and to create a new, iconic landmark in the city. To achieve this vision, The Coal Bridge creates events that can bring people to the area. An example of these events is a couple of food fairs held in the area underneath the coal bridge. Another example of bringing people into the area is the project holding of exhibitions where people can stay in tune with the development in the area.

Samsø Energy Academy works in close cooperation with the local community and Samsø Municipality to make a sustainable transition for the island Samsø. The Energy Academy strongly believes that the island's transition must be done with support and cooperation of the island’s residents so that they develop a sense of ownership.

In just 10 years Samsø Energy Academy have made the island 100 % self-sufficient with renewable energy. Now their goal is to make the island fossil-free by 2030 but also to demonstrate how energy efficient solutions can be introduced into the society.

REUSE

REUSE at Godsbanen in Aarhus, is a great example on how culture and a great idea can have an impact on our everyday lives and help shape the future.

REUSE is like a swapping supermarket. Open five days a week in the middle of the city. The idea is simple: "Give what you have, take what you need".

REUSE is hosted by the city waste mangement, AffaldVarme, and is big scale 1:1 test on how to reuse more of our used materials. The city even offers to come and pick up your old stuff through their "Storskrald" initiative (bulky waste collection).

Ones or twice a month REUSE is host for upcycling events such as repair cafes, exhibitions, furniture redesigns and so on.
